What to wear for work in the summer

What to wear for work in the summer

For those of you in the UK this week, you'll know that we've had a sudden heatwave of glorious weather. I absolutely love the hot weather in England, but when you're at work or the office during the day, it can get very hot and sticky depending on what you're wearing. I like to still look stylish whilst keeping cool in the heat. Here are my top tips on dressing for the office during the summer months.

Stick to cool fabrics

During the summer, wool dresses and tops are a definite no for me. It's so important to choose the right fabrics, so things like linen are very popular during summer. This blue dress I'm wearing from New Look is a light fabric which keeps me cool when it's super hot.

Space to breathe

I try to avoid tight clothing when it gets really hot in the office. For example, this blue dress I'm wearing is so comfortable and spacious whilst still being flattering. I also like to have bare legs in the summer as tights make me feel too hot! The dress is quite open which is definitely a good thing, as my arms and legs have lots of room.

Open shoes

This depends on your company policy about footwear, but if possible I like to have shoes that are open either at the back or front so that my feet have space to breathe as well. There's nothing worse than sticky feet during a heatwave! These gorgeous cream and black shoes are open at the back, giving my feet plenty of space to move around and breathe. They also look very smart for the office.

As you can probably tell, I am loving this weather in England at the moment - let's hope it lasts!

The perfect summer evening outfit

The perfect summer evening outfit

It's the middle of May and I'm writing this blog post whilst looking out of the window at the rain. The British summer time has not quite started yet, but that won't stop me from dressing all summery. Summer nights out are the best as you don't have to worry about being cold (most of the time), or taking extra layers with you. I recently went on a night out with some friends and wanted to share my outfit details to inspire you for your summer evenings out.

The dress

Summer is the perfect time to start wearing more dresses. I'm a dress person all year round, but wearing dresses without tights and jackets gives me the best feeling during summer! This red dress is from Jaeger and I absolutely love it. The colour is really bright and stands out. The cut of the dress is extremely flattering, with it falling above my knees. I believe in investing in clothing that makes you feel great, and for me this is the perfect evening outfit for the season.

Accessories

I took with me the trusty gold clutch bag which fits all of my night out essentials. I like the fact that it has a shoulder strap if you want to wear it cross body. The gold and red also pair nicely together, creating a classic and elegant look.

Make up

For summer nights out, I like to go slightly brighter with my make up. In this look, I'm wearing my Sephora red matte lipstick which is super long lasting. I've kept the rest of my make up neutral, with no eyeshadow and a little mascara.

How to style a statement jacket

How to style a statement jacket

When it comes to fashion and styling, I wouldn't say that I always play it safe. Although I love the classic and timeless look, I also really like wearing bold and bright colours. This bright blue jacket could be seen as quite daring by some. However there are ways of wearing and styling statement pieces like this so that they don't look too overbearing.

Keep your other items simple

As the jacket is very statement and bright blue, I decided to ensure that the rest of my outfit was neutral. This look was a smart one suitable for office attire so I wore a black pencil dress underneath the jacket with a pair of black shoes. The blue and black really complemented each other and this ensured that the jacket remained the focal point of the whole outfit.

Choose your colours wisely

Not every statement jacket will necessarily be suitable for everyone. It's good to ensure that the colour suits you and you'll feel most comfortable. I chose a blue jacket as I think that the colour goes well with lots of items in my wardrobe. It's also very smart for office wear.

Completing the outfit

I like to complete my outfits with suitable accessories and here I've chosen my blue Prada bag which fits loads of stuff in! It also works well with the blue jacket. I decided to keep my jewellery minimal, with just a pair of pearl earrings, along with my Valentino sunglasses.
